Town of Independence dry now, crews still preparing

The Buchanan County Emergency Management Agency says as of now, the town of Independence is dry and not taking on floodwater.

EMA for the county tells KWWL the Mental Health Institute in Independence is dry, and not at risk right now. Emergency crews in Buchanan County say they are having a conference call with the Iowa DOT later this afternoon to discuss any potential road closures.

Right now, no roads are closed near, or in, Independence. The US 150 bridge, as well as the First St. and Second St. bridges, remain open.
