Cedar River invades Waverly

WAVERLY (KWWL) -

The Cedar River took over parts of Waverly Friday morning, forcing people to evacuate from their homes.

A homeowner nearby says he watched the water rise.

"Myself and my other neighbors, we went into a little bit of a panic yesterday, you just hear all of these different rumors, like it's gonna keep going up and it's gonna crest, Saturday, it's gonna crest Sunday," said David Schamlz, Waverly.

Schamlz watched the Cedar River rise in his back yard, and many others in Waverly watched it rise throughout the town. The green bridge, a landmark in the town, is almost under water. The Cedar River rising high enough to touch the bottom of the bridge. Other areas that are closed include a sports complex and three baseball fields.

"How do you gauge this? I mean you just don't know, what if it starts raining again? You just have no idea what's coming and that's, when you live this close to the river, it's just something you have to deal with," said Schamlz.

Schamlz say he isn't leaving his house, despite the flooding in his back yard.

Though Schalmz decided not to evacuate his house, some of his neighbors did and so did many others in Waverly.

The Red Cross is offering help to anyone affected by the flooding in the Waverly and Shellrock area, and victims can go to Grace Baptist Church in Waverly.
