Evacuations underway in Greene, people asked to stay out of town

Posted: Updated:
GREENE (KWWL) -

Greene is seeing flooding this morning. Right now people are moving their belongings out of homes and businesses. We're told some buildings are being evacuated.

North Butler High School in Greene will be open this morning at 5:30 a.m. as an emergency shelter. People who need to stay there are being asked to use the 5th Street entrance.

The Butler County emergency Management Agency posted this message on Facebook:

"Law enforcement and Emergency Management officials are asking the public to stay out of Greene at this time due to many flooded streets, downed trees and power lines, etc. The Shell Rock River has left its banks in many areas and travel is not recommended in the Greene and Clarksville areas. This is not a time for sightseeing. Please let emergency crews do their job. Thank you for your cooperation."
