WAVERLY (KWWL) -

Every second matters when fighting a fire.

Seconds can mean the difference between life and death.

Realizing time is critical, two Iowa police officers go into a burning house to rescue a woman trapped inside.

A woman called 911 saying there was a fire in her house and she couldn't move.

Officers Ryan Wegner and Don Eggleston realized they beat the fire department to the house.

So they ran inside to find the injured woman.

They say they had to crawl because you could only see about 8 inches off the ground. Everywhere else was smoke.

The officers finally found the woman and saw she had burns on her arms and legs.

They pulled her out of the house right as the fire department pulled up.

The woman is still in the hospital in serious condition.

The fire started in the kitchen last Friday morning. The woman's husband is giving the officers updates on how she's doing
