Black Hawk Electronics Recycling & Household Toxins Drop-off

It is that time of year again.

The Black Hawk County Solid Waste Management Commission is hosting an electronics recycling and household toxins drop-off day.

The event will be held Saturday, September 24th from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Cedar Falls Public Works Complex.

The Complex is located at 2200 Technology Parkway.

During the event volunteers will be collecting household items such as lawn chemicals, rechargeable batteries, fluorescent light bulbs (compact and tube), propane tanks, old gasoline, mercury thermometers, etc.

Each vehicle/household can recycle two Cathode Ray Tube containing (not flat-screen) computer monitors/televisions for free. Additional CRTs are $5 each.

Flat screen TVs/monitors, computer accessories, game systems, vacuums, VCR/DVD players, radios, humidifiers, holiday lights, and much more will be recycled at no cost.

All hard drives will be shredded. A complete list of accepted items and fees can be found at

Items not accepted include: paint, appliances (such as microwaves, air conditioners, stoves, dehumidifiers, washers, dryers, refrigerators, etc.), tires, motor oil, antifreeze, ammunition, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, asbestos, radioactive materials, or non-hazardous waste.

Businesses, churches, schools, and and non-profits will not be allowed to drop-off items at this event.
