DUBUQUE COUNTY (KWWL) -

The Iowa DNR is looking for the source of extensive fish kill in Dubuque and Jones counties.

In Dubuque County, the fish kill is located in Whitewater Creek. Staff found manure runoff and dead fish along several miles of stream on Sunday.

Dead fish were also found from southwest of Peosta downstream to North Fork of the Maquoketa River in Jones County.

That's a distance of more than 20 miles.

Different fish species were found, including shiners, smallmouth bass, suckers and stonecat.

DNR collected water samples for testing and is continuing to count dead fish.
