UPDATE: It's been a difficult weekend at Luther College in Decorah.

After searching for 21-year old Bjorn Norderhaug, a missing student, his body is pulled from the Upper Iowa River.

Police say he was last seen in downtown Decorah, early Saturday morning around 2 a.m. They say he left the Corner Bar with a friend, and since then no was able to get in touch with him.

Sunday morning, rescue crews searched along the Upper Iowa River and recovered his body.

The Luther community devastated by the loss. "We've reached out to some of his friends and roommates, and this is difficult for anybody whose experienced an unexpected loss of life," said Corey Landstrom, Vice President and Dean of Student Life at Luther College.

Bjorn was a senior studying computer science. He's from Eden Prairie, Minnesota.

His family and friends tried to remain optimistic, but it was bad news in the end. "For any situation where you start out with a report of someone missing, a students death is not where you want to see the end result," Landstrom said.

During this difficult time, the Luther community is leaning on one another for support. A prayer vigil was held on campus, Sunday night.

Luther College is providing grief counseling to those affected by Bjorn's death.
