A woman who made a false statement in an immigration petition is sentenced to three months in jail. Tamie Marie Samuels from North Liberty, filed an immigration petition back in 2015 to help her fourth husband gain legal status to the U.S. Samuels' husband is from Jamaica and entered the U.S. through a visitor visa. In the immigration petition, she falsely claimed she had never filed a petition for an alien relative before. She previously filed a petition for an alien relative in 1997 for her second husband who was from Peru.

Samuels was sentenced in Cedar Rapids to three months' imprisonment and a special assessment of $100 was imposed. She'll also serve a three-year term of supervised release after the prison term.
