UPDATE: Possible child enticement in Guttenberg, parents reacting

Posted: Updated:
GUTTENBERG (KWWL) -

Parents in Guttenberg being extra cautious after hearing about a possible abduction.

"You always tell your kids don't go up to strangers, if a stranger pulls up on the side of the road and tells you to come here and all that, but with the description of how the incident went," said Tyler Strickfaden, father of three.

Police say an unidentified man tried to lure three elementary school age children into a black SUV.

It happened Thursday, right after school hours, near the 600-block of  South First Street.

The way it happened is unsettling. The man allegedly got out of the SUV and approached the kids. He asked  them, "Where are your parents?"

When one of them replied, "At home," the man yelled, "Get in the truck."

Thankfully,  the kids ran off.

The most shocking part of all, is this happened just a block away from the police department. Also nearby the Guttenberg Public Library and Saint Mary's School.

For parents like Strickfaden, this incident brings up the perfect time to have that talk with his boys. "I tell em, hey you know, if that happens and they start hollerin' at you, you have no idea who they are...just scream and run," he said.

He also says, this situation proves abductions can happen anywhere. "I guess predators like that know no location. It doesn't matter the size of the town apparently."

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5'9" and 180 pounds. He has a read beard, was wearing camo pants, a red tank top, and a dark hat.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
