BLACK HAWK COUNTY (KWWL) -

Some say a picture is worth a thousand words.

An eastern Iowa organization is using a photo competition to remind people of all the good things happening in their community.

The Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa believes it's very important we highlight and share stories about the good things people are doing.

To celebrate 60 years, the foundation started the Good Things Happening Photo Contest.

For the next six weeks, they're asking people to send them pictures.

They're looking for moments where people are doing something to help or improve Black Hawk County.

Every Tuesday,10 winners will be announced. That means there will be 60 winners total.

The photo contest just began on Wednesday, people have already submitted 42 photos for this first week.

The 10 winners chosen each week will get a 100 dollar grant they can donate to a nonprofit that serves the Black Hawk County community.

In the end, there will be a grand prize winner.

A panel of judges chooses nine of the winners each week. One is chosen by the public on Facebook.
