DES MOINES (KWWL) -

Family, friends, and the community gather to remember the girl killed in a deadly crash last week.

A candlelight vigil and lantern release was held for Lea Phann.

Donations were also taken to help the Phanns. Her grandfather who was also injured in the crash remains in serious condition.

A man charged in the crash may have been in the country illegally.

A news release Monday said 18-year-old Fernando Lopez Aguilar already was charged with three counts of serious injury by reckless driving and that one of them will be amended to homicide because of the death of Lea Phann.

Sen. Chuck Grassley sent a letter Tuesday to the Department of Homeland Security asking for the immigration history of Lopez Aguilar.
