CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Police are working to put social media rumors to rest, accusing a high school student who killed himself of planning a mass shooting.

A 15-year-old was found behind the Cedar Rapids Jefferson auditorium with a gunshot wound, forcing the school into a lockdown for more than an hour on Friday.

The student died over the weekend.

A YouTube account with a profile picture of the Virginia Tech shooter is believed to be the account of the student who took his own life.

The account has multiple game-like videos of shootings inside schools and other places.

A video of the Jefferson High School hallway was uploaded to the account the day before the 15-year-old shot himself.

"They reviewed video footage and there is the 15-year-old who on Tuesday of last week was filming inside the hallway of Jefferson High School," says Greg Buelow, Cedar Rapids Public Information Officer.

The Jefferson High School Principal Chuck McDonnell also confirmed to students in an announcement made Tuesday, "I can confirm that the video you may have seen showing the inside of our school was recorded Tuesday, Sept. 6. He recorded it alone; no one else was involved."

The video has more than 15,000 views on YouTube.

Buelow says "Well it's not likely," that any other Jefferson student would have uploaded the video.

Rumors about the students intentions to be a mass shooter are nothing but rumors according to authorities.

"All these folks that have indicated that we've got solid proof of this type of manifesto or this type of action that he was in the school and all that, totally untrue,"  Buelow says.

He tells us the rumors have not been helpful.

"We have to make sure we are that we're very crystal clear about what's going on here so we can ask people to please stop, with propagating any additional rumors unless you have specific credible information then we want to hear about that," Buelow says.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.

There are extra police officers at Jefferson High School to reassure students.

Right now police know the student walked to school, had just one handgun and took his own life.

Buelow says hearts should go out to the family at this time.
