Iowa Supreme Court to take action on mental health institutes

(KWWL) -

Today the Iowa Supreme Court hears arguments over whether Governor Branstad broke state law.

Last year Branstad vetoed a bill which would have kept the state mental health institutes in Clarinda and Mount Pleasant open.

A number of democratic state lawmakers filed the lawsuit, claiming Branstad's veto was unconstitutional.

Oral arguments are scheduled for today.
