A 16-year-old girl in California has described how she was abducted by two men on her way home from school, only to fight them off and get away.

The incident occurred in Apple Valley around 2.30pm Monday in San Bernardino Valley.

The victim, who has not been identified, told NBC LA that she was walking the 2.5 miles home from school when a red Dodge charger stopped and a man tried to pull her inside.

The girl was coming home from Apple Valley High School. She said she picked up an old door knob off the side of the street after getting the feeling she was being followed.

Not long after the car stopped and a man - who according to the girl was in his twenties or thirties - got out and grabbed her by the arm

That's when the girl fought back.

'I kicked him in the leg and I think he fell,' she told NBC.

'Then I grabbed the item from my other hand and swung it with all my muscle and hit him in the head.'

The girl ran away and a woman driving by stopped to ask her if she was alright.

'This lady she stopped and was like ''are you ok?'' and I was like, ''no, I'm scared'',' she said.

The woman drove the victim home. She was not injured in the ordeal, but says she is too scared to go back to school.

Police are hoping to use the girl's description of the men to try and track them down. She said she believes she may have seen them hanging around the school.
