DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Jury selection is set to start Tuesday in the trial of a man who is charged with First-Degree murder for killing his daughter.

In June of last year, Dubuque police responded to a house because of a suspicious phone call Robert Stern made.

Stern mentioned someone may have died there. Police discovered a body with multiple gunshot wounds.

Neighbors saw the commotion. "They came to the other house, they were kinda walking around the house. It kinda freaked me out a little bit because they had their guns out," said Haley Oberhoffer.

Inside, police found the body of 27-year-old Kimberly Stern.

According the criminal complaint, Stern says he couldn't remember his daughters name. He told authorities she pushed his buttons and he got very mad. The complaint goes on to say Stern got a gun and repeatedly shot her, but he wasn't done yet.

Stern got not one, but two more guns to kill her. Several rounds were shot from each one.

After that, he called 911. Police say once they arrived, he admitted to the crime saying he knew what he did was bad. They say they found him sitting in the living room, not too far away from him was a bag with ammunition and gun cleaning supplies.

The prosecution says Robert Stern willfully and deliberately killed his daughter and it was premeditated.

KWWL reached out to Stern's defense, but they didn't want to comment.
