Waterloo police want to see more cameras around city

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Using cameras to solve crimes in Waterloo.

Waterloo Police Chief Dan Trelka is making a pitch to the Waterloo City Council. He'd like to see a system similar to one in Dubuque. By the end of this year Dubuque will have more than 1,000 cameras in the city. Police routinely check them during investigations and say they were vital in solving a 2015 assault and murder.

A Waterloo task force has been discussing how the cameras could benefit the city. Trelka will be talking to the council about ways to pay for the system.

The discussion will happen at tonight's work session meeting.
