LANSING (KWWL) -

Lansing firefighters respond to a fire on Main Street.

It happened early Sunday morning at the former Smerud Construction building. The building is still owned by the Smerud family.

According to the Lansing Fire Chief, the fire happened in the lower level and basement in the building.

There's also an apartment upstairs. Nobody was there at the time of the fire. People in neighboring buildings had to be evacuated while crews worked on the fire.

One firefighter had to be treated for exhaustion.

The cause of the fire has not been determined and the State Fire Marshall is being asked to investigate.
