Inwood Ballroom in Spillville dealing with flooding

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

It's a close call for the Inwood Ballroom in Spillville.

"We had high water, but it wasn't as bad as it was 16 days ago," said Wanda Cole, co-manager of the ballroom.

Heavy rainfall causes the nearby Turkey River to swell, threatening the 100-year-old iconic ballroom with flooding.

It's something managers just dealt with a few weeks ago in August. "We were up and running again 10 days after the flood and...we thought everything was gonna be back to normal and here we go again, is what we were afraid of," Cole said.

Not only did they have to deal with countless amounts of water, they also have lots of sand that came up with the water from the river.

So now they're trying to clean all that up and continue with the festivities.

However, whenever it rains too much now, it causes some worry that flooding is possible again.

"So depending where the rain is falling, those creeks will fill up, or not fill up and then they go into the Turkey  River, and then we get the sum of that....it's just the way it is," Cole said.
