UPDATE: Jefferson High School student has life threatening injuries

UPDATE: Jefferson High School is dismissing at 1:30 on Friday, after a student is found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound outside the school. Many students already left the school after a lockdown there was lifted. 


UPDATE: Greg Buelow, Cedar Rapids Public Safety Communications Coordinator, confirmed it was an attempted suicide.

The following message was shared with families and staff:  The CR police department is currently investigating an emergency medical situation on the Jefferson High School campus involving one individual. The school has been secured and students are being held in place until we can gather more information. At this time, we do not believe there is any threat to the safety of students and staff. We will provide more information as it is available.


The school is on lockdown at the moment.

Cedar Rapids Police confirm that a 15-year-old male was found with life-threatening injuries from gun shot wounds outside behind the auditorium at Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids. 

Officers say they do not believe that anyone other than the victim was involved, but they are continuing to investigate. 

The victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. 

Officers say they do not think any other students are in danger.


Cedar Rapids Schools says Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids is currently on lock down.

No other details were released.
