Iowa gets $4 million in funding to update buses and bus facilities

Posted: Updated:

Congressman Dave Loebsack announces more than $4 million in funding to update Iowa buses and bus facilities. The Iowa Department of Transportation will receive $4,273,771 from the U.S. Department of Transportation to update buses across the state. This comes as a part of the recently passed long-term Highway bill. Loebsack helped write and expand the Bus and Bus Facilities Competitive Grant Program, which is where the funding is coming from. This will be used to replace buses that operate in rural areas that have reached the end of their useful life.

Loebsack states, "Having access to reliable transportation, especially for folks in rural areas to connect with more urban communities, is essential for growth across the state."

As part of the FAST Act, Loebsack's amendment created a nationwide $1.5 billion grant program to update the aging bus and bus facilities system. The grant program gives all 50 states the ability to compete for limited funding based on the merits of the project, not just location.
