Pair of Kernels win MWL batting and RBI crowns

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Luis Arraez and Zander Wiel finished the 2016 Midwest League season on top of the leaderboards.

Arraez on the MWL batting title after hitting .347 in 114 games.  He hit 31 doubles, three triples, three home runs and 66 RBI.  He was named to both the MWL post season and mid-season all-star teams.

He's the youngest player to win the MWL batting crown since Mike Trout did it in 2010.

Wiel, meanwhile, took home the RBI crown, after driving in 86 runs, including seven in Monday's game.  He finished the season with 19 home runs.

The Kernels open the MWL playoffs Wednesday at Wisconsin.
