The speed limit at the intersection of a deadly accident will be reduced this week. The speed limit on Iowa 27/U.S. 18/U.S. 218 at Floyd will be lowered beginning Friday, Sept. 9, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation. Westbound traffic speeds will be reduced from 65 mph to 55 mph about 1 mile west of the north junction of U.S. 218 and U.S. 18. Eastbound traffic will also be reduced from 65 mph to 55 mph 1 mile west of the north junction of U.S. 218 and U.S. 18. The change is happening to make it easier for drivers to find gaps in traffic to enter and cross the highway. Electronic signs will be posted to remind drivers of the change.

This comes over a month after a deadly crash along this intersection. Back in July, a 23-year-old was riding a motorcycle when he was hit and killed by a semi in the intersection. At that time, there were over 35 different traffic accidents at the intersection since 2011.
