DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Nearly one week after a man shoots himself -- he's now facing charges for trying to kill a woman.

Police say 34-year-old Anthony Foht of Dubuque is under arrest for attempted murder. Last Tuesday, investigators were going through a house, looking for clues.

KWWL now knows Foht sexually assaulted a woman he's familiar with at gunpoint. Police say he tried shooting her but the gun misfired.

Neighbors who live in the area say it's concerning because several children live nearby.

After trying to kill the woman, that's apparently when he shot himself. Police then found in the yard across the street with a gun wound.

During the search, they were able to recover the gun.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment then released.

Foht is facing a total of six charges. They include attempted murder, second-degree sex abuse, first-degree burglary, being a felon in possession of a firearm, domestic assault with injury and violating a no-contact order.

His bond is set at more than $1 million.
