Iowa rolls past Miami (OH) 45-21 in opener

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

It wasn't always pretty, but Iowa opened strong and finished strong as the Hawkeyes topped Miami of Ohio 45-21 to open their 2016 campaign.

The Hawks shot out to a 28-7 halftime lead behind the strength of four rushing touchdowns, two from Akrum Wadley and the other two run in by Leshun Daniels. Wadley led the Iowa rushing attack with 121 yards in the game.

Iowa extended the lead to 35-7 in the third quarter on a 4th and 6 play from the 11 yardline as C.J. Beathard threaded a pass to Jerminic Smith in the end zone.

Miami would pull within 14 late, but the Hawks added a Derrick Mitchell Jr. touchdown along with Keith Duncan's first career field goal to put the game away in the fourth.
