Posted: Updated:

Friendly neighbors Vinton-Shellsburg and Union took the field in a matchup of 3A versus 2A. Vinton Shellsburg opened the season with an impressive 33-15 win over Center Point-Urbana. Meanwhile Union was just as impressive with a 35-0 shutout over Marion.

After going up 16-0, the Union Knights looked to build on their lead in the second quarter. Quarterback Troy Hanus continued his excellent day through the air on the first drive in the second quarter. Hanus was able to complete multiple first downs to John Boisen and Isaiah Vaughan. Vaughan capped off the drive with an impressive 35 yard touchdown run.

The Vinton Shellsburg Vikings couldn't get much going on offense as they continued to try gadget plays that would go nowhere.

On their second drive in the second quarter, Troy Hanus completed a 40 yard pass to Kovy Alpers who dove to haul it in. Once again Isaiah Vaughan finished off the drive with another score, this time for 17 yards. Vaughan finished the game with four rushing touchdowns.

The Union defense didn't let up all game as they shut out Vinton-Shellsburg 50-0 continuing their dominance in 2016.
