United Airlines emergency landing in Ireland

Posted: Updated:

A United Airlines flight bound for London made an emergency landing in Ireland Wednesday after severe turbulence that left 12 passengers in the hospital.

United Airlines Flight 880 took off from Houston and was supposed to land at London's Heathrow Airport.

The plane was carrying 207 passengers, three cockpit crew members and ten flight attendants.

United said that the plane was diverted due to "severe and unexpected turbulence."

Officials say all but one of the injured passengers were discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment for minor injuries.

Others received treatment for lesser injuries at the airport.

United Airlines said one of its flights attendants was still being treated at the hospital.

The airline said ten passengers and two flight attendants needed hospital care.
