DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Des Moines police say an officer fired shots at a fleeing vehicle that the officer thought was endangering his brother.

Police say in a news release that officers responded around 3:45 p.m. Sunday to a report about an armed man. They soon spotted a vehicle that matched a description provided by a 911 caller. The driver refused to follow the officers' instructions and began to race away.

Police say Officer Benjamin McCarthy then fired several shots at the man's vehicle, fearing that his brother, Officer Zachary McCarthy, was in danger of being struck by the vehicle. The man was captured when the vehicle was stopped. Police say a handgun was found inside. No injuries have been reported.

The man was identified as Darrius Bolden. It's unclear whether he has an attorney.
