Des Moines officer fired at fleeing vehicle, police say

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Des Moines police say an officer fired several shots at a fleeing vehicle but apparently didn't hit the driver.

Police say a news release that officers responded around 3:45 p.m. Sunday to a report about an armed man. They soon spotted a vehicle that matched a description provided by a 911 caller. The driver refused to follow the officers' instructions and began to race away.

Police say one of the officers then fired several shots at the man's vehicle. He was captured when the vehicle was stopped after a short pursuit. Police say a handgun was found in the vehicle. No injuries have been reported.

The man's name hasn't been released. A police spokesman declined to comment on whether the shooting was in line with police policies.
