Communities prepare for flooding, unaffected by rising river

Posted: Updated:

People in Clayton County are on edge because of devastating floods in the area.

"We've been nervous, cause we've been expecting this for three or four days," said Mike Landwehr, a business owner in the area.

In the town of Garber, businesses near the Turkey River prepared, lining up sandbags,  getting ready for the worst.

But it didn't happen. people  say they were spared this time around.

In nearby Millville, people also stacked up sandbags, but they ended up not needing them because the water didn't go over the levee. People here say the Turkey River has noticeably  risen the past few days, but not enough to cause damage.

Those nearby are grateful. "We're very fortunate that it hasn't come over the levee here, if it did, our business would be wiped out," said Landwehr of his bar and grill, Bootleggers in Millville.

So, it's business as usual.

Besides a few closed roads, it seems this time around flooding hasn't caused a major inconvenience.
