WATERLOO - A felon who says he mistakenly voted in the 2012 presidential election has been ordered to pay a $750 fine.
Glen Tank of Waterloo said Friday that he's "not happy" with how the criminal justice system handled his case. He says he pleaded guilty to election misconduct Tuesday under a plea deal in order to avoid possible prison time.
Tank will end up owing more than $1,500 when surcharges, court costs and parole supervision fees are included. The auto body shop employee says he doesn't "have that money laying around."
Tank lost his right to vote when he was convicted of operating while intoxicated-third offense. He says he believed his voting rights had been restored when he registered and voted at a precinct at the Waterloo police station in 2012.
