After flooding, clean-up efforts underway in Decorah

Posted: Updated:
DECORAH (KWWL) -

Days after substantial rainfall in Decorah, people are dealing with the aftermath.

"There are moments when it's overwhelming, but I'm just really glad to get rid of the stuff," said Sue Schulz.

Homeowners like Sue are cleaning up, throwing out damaged belongings from the flood. "I had started to rebuild in the basement, so I'll lose all the wall board, the studs, etcetera for the bathroom downstairs, and the bathroom," she added.

She hopes to save old photos of loved ones that were in her basement. They have sentimental value.

Nearby, other homeowners are going through the same thing. They're using pumps to get the water out. The flood waters are being pumped back into the Upper Iowa River.

Although it's been a difficult few days, neighbors say with the support of others these trying times become a bit more bearable.

The city is asking those affected by the flood, to document everything. Also, take pictures and save receipts.
