AMVETS show appreciation

Posted: Updated:

The Cedar Falls AMVETS are thanking local law enforcement and fire fighters by showing appreciation with a free meal.

The AMVETS are excited to be able to show their appreciation for local law enforcement, serving meals to people who serve our community.

"After seeing a lot of the stuff going on around the country, with law enforcement, we decided we wanted to do something to show appreciation for the law enforcement in the area, and then looking into it we decided, you know what, the fire department also needs gratitude for everything they do for us," said Dan Macdonald, AMVETS.

Fire fighters and police officers from around the area came together to be thanked for their hard work.

"An opportunity like this, for them to do something special for us, is good for both of us," said Dan Brown, Cedar Falls Police.

"Hopefully, the rest of the community starts making changes instead of turning against the law enforcement," said Macdonald. "Showing them that we are behind them, willing to help them when needed, just a lot better appreciation for everything and a lot more respect for them."

Law enforcement should be respected and connected, something a Cedar Falls Police lieutenant says is important.

"It's a great deal, and it's important to us to be connected with our community, the more we are a part of what we do in our community, the better we can police and enforce and keep them safe," said Brown.

AMVETS and law enforcement agree the world needs more positivity, in light of all the negativity happening around the nation. Saying events like this are important.

"Well, I hope they can get an opportunity to see, we are people too," said Brown.
