DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

After a three month summer break, the University of Dubuque is looking lively again.

Students are back on campus moving in for the school year, like freshman Rachel Stanley. "I'm very excited, I think this is a step that I've been waiting for and I think UD is the perfect place. It feels like home away from home and I'm so glad I made this decision," she said.

University leaders say this years incoming class is one of the largest. "Well today is the official move-in day for the first-year students, amongst our nearly 900 students living on campus, we'll have almost 430 brand new students and transfers with us this year," said Rick Merfield, Director of Residence Life.

Students from all over including overseas, packing up their lives and settling into UD.

For parents like Joyce Hilliard, it's a bittersweet moment. Her son is the first of her kids to go to college. "I'm so excited that he's coming to college, but I am gonna miss him...but I'm very proud of him," she said.

Her son Brandon is looking forward to this new change.

Dubuque students still have a few days of summer left. Classes start on Thursday.
