Brother of boy from Syria airstrike video dies

Posted: Updated:

The brother of a boy seen in a sobering video after an airstrike in Syria has died.

The Halab Today opposition TV station posted a photo of 10-year-old Ali Daqneesh saying he died from his wounds.

His younger brother, 3-year-old Omran Daqneesh, struck the hearts of many across the world last week after images showed him looking bewildered as rescuers pulled him from the rubble of his home following an airstrike in an opposition-held area in Aleppo.

Omran was covered in dust, dirt and blood.

He sat still as rescuers helped others around him.

His father told The Telegraph, he was sitting on the couch with Omran when the strike hit their house.

He says the blast split the couch in half and Omran fell in between the two halves.

Omran’s older brother Ali had been outside at the time.

The father told The Telegraph, “It is very painful to watch you children falling in front of your eyes.”

The boys had two sisters and another brother.

The other siblings are believed to be okay.

Russia has denied reports it is responsible for the airstrikes.

In a statement, the defense ministry said it never targets populated areas and that rebels themselves hit urban areas in order to derail humanitarian efforts.
