CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Cedar Rapids Washington School District has named Grant Schultz as the interim Activities Director at Washington High School for the upcoming 2016-17 school year, pending board approval.

This comes after a sex scandal involving a former substitute teacher and a high school student.  The former teacher, Mary Beth Haglin faces sexual exploitation charges in the case.  Former principal Dr. Ralph Plagman was asked by the district to step down, as well as others.

Schultz joined the district in 1996, and is currently a physical education teacher, as well as the wellness and physical education facilitator.

“I am excited and proud to be a Warrior!” said Schultz. “I’m looking forward to being a part of the supportive community and continuing the traditions of excellence in fine arts and athletics.”

“Grant brings a variety of classroom and coaching experiences to this position,” said Dr. Brad Buck, Superintendent. “He has also built strong relationships across the District in the areas of health, physical education, and wellness through his role as facilitator.”

“The Washington High School community is fortunate to have someone with this skill set and dedication to students in this role,” added Dr. Carlos Grant, interim Principal at Washington. “I look forward to Grant working as a liaison between coaches, directors and teachers to support students in co-curricular programming.”
