Settlement reached in another Iowa City tenants' lawsuit

Posted: Updated:

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - A settlement has been reached in another tenant class-action lawsuit in Iowa City.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports (http://icp-c.com/2bCvoAV ) that a judge approved the settlement Wednesday. It was filed jointly by Iowa Tenants' Project attorney Chris Warnock and attorneys representing landlord Tracy Barkalow and his property ownership and management companies.

People who rented from TSB Holdings and Big Ten Property Management during lease years 2010-11 and 2011-12 are eligible to receive $65, or up to $130 if they were tenants both years. The case challenged lease provisions.

Last month a judge approved the settlement of another lawsuit filed by Tenants' Project. It alleged that an Iowa City off-campus student housing provider charged illegal fees and withheld unreasonable amounts from security deposits.
