KTIV -

The Spencer, Iowa pastor who founded The Dream Center, billed as "a mecca for the less fortunate," is facing five charges of Sexual Exploitation by a Counselor. Kevin Grimes turned himself in to Clay County Authorities, was arrested and then released after posting $5,000 bond. Three of the charges are felonies, two are aggravated misdemeanors.

Court documents allege that from 2012 to 2016, Grimes engaged in a pattern of conduct to engage in sexual conduct with three emotionally dependent clients. It's alleged that Grimes groomed these individuals by initiating jokes and conversations that were sexual in nature, provided photographs that were sexual in nature to two of the individuals and inappropriately touched one of them. Grimes is also accused of engaging in sex acts with one victim on two separate occasions last September and December.

In 2012, while he was the senior pastor at Day Spring Church, Grimes opened the Spencer Dream Center. Operating out of a former hotel, the center offered youth outreach and tutoring, food and clothing.

Court documents say Grimes provided or purported to provide mental health services to emotionally dependent individuals he knew or should have known were incapable of consenting to sexual conduct.

Grimes resigned as CEO of the Dream Center in May after he became the focus of the criminal investigation.
