RIO DE JANEIRO (KWWL) -

The U.S. Women's Volleyball team fell short in an Olympic semifinals match that went the distance with Serbia on Thursday.

The American team, which had compiled a perfect 6-0 record heading into today's match, lost in five sets to the Serbian national team by a score of 25-20, 17-25, 21-25, 25-16, 13-15. The win exacted a measure of revenge for Serbia, which had lost to the United States in four sets during preliminary play on August 10th. Team USA is ranked No. 1 in the most recent FIVB rankings, but it will be the 6th-ranked Serbians moving onto the Gold Medal Match on Saturday.

Team USA will also play on Saturday in the Bronze Medal Match, facing whichever team falls short in a Netherlands/China face-off later tonight. Dubuque-native Kayla Banwarth has starred at libero for the U.S. Women's Volleyball team throughout the 2016 Olympics.
