CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

With the general election creeping closer, Hillary Clinton's running mate speaks in Iowa.

Senator Tim Kaine was at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids today with less than 12 weeks until the next president is elected.

This was a get to know Tim Kaine event for many of the Hillary Clinton supporters we spoke with.

A number of Clinton supporters said they didn't know much about Kaine until he became her running mate.

"Hadn't heard of him before so this is another chance to get to know him better," said Mary Muehl of Cedar Rapids.

"What I've heard from him is impressive," said Gene Jahncke told us.

Kaine is undefeated in elections.

"I barely win my races I mean I am like, I have no fingernails people because I chew them off, I win very close races," he told the crowd.

Kaine addressing jobs, including his belief in equal pay for equal work.

"Do you want a you're hired president or a you're fired president," he asked the crowd.

He also spoke about Donald Trump.

"Don't tell me after you've spent your whole life trying to skate out of paying taxes that you're suddenly going to a commander and chief and support the military, he's been stiffing the military his whole life," Kaine said.

Seemingly well received in Iowa, Kaine reminding the state they are counting on Iowa in the election.

"We are counting on Iowa in a big way to go with the winner," he said.

"We'll be back in 8 years, celebrating her 8 years of presidency," Jahncke told us.
