Life sentence upheld for Iowan convicted of killing parents

A man convicted of killing his parents loses his appeal.

A jury convicted Gordon Lasley, Jr of Second Degree Murder and a court sentenced him to two consecutive life sentences in prison. Lasley filed an appeal -- arguing the court should have considered a lesser offense, like involuntary manslaughter, and shorter sentence.

The crime happened on the Meskwawki Settlement in Tama County which is why the case was tried in federal court.

One judge disagreed with the sentence, arguing life in prison is typically used for First Degree Murder cases. He believes, had this case been tried in state court, Lasley would have received a lower sentence.
