Interim principal ready to join Warrior family

Posted: Updated:

We are hearing from the man taking over at the helm of a high school in the midst of a sex scandal that forced the previous principal from his position.

The Cedar Rapids School District named Dr. Carlos Grant interim principal of Washington High School yesterday.

Grant joined the district two years ago as the Principal at Metro High School.

He was currently serving as Executive Director of Personalized Learning, Middle Level Education and Partner Development.

The announcement comes after Dr. Ralph Plagman says he was asked to step down.

An investigation continues into an alleged sexual relationship involving a student and former substitute teacher at the school.

Today Grant described how he plans to fill Plagman's shoes, who has been with the Cedar Rapids Community School District for 49 years and at Washington for 35 of them.

"To try to replicate and fill his shoes is a big, big undertaking and task and I respect that whole-heartedly. I do not anticipate a lot of change like I said earlier my mindset and my vision for this year is to be a learner and to understand what it means to be a Warrior," Grant told us.

He says he recognizes the Warrior community as a family and that he wants to be a part of it.
