2,000 piece train collection being auctioned

Posted: Updated:

Imagine selling something unique you've held onto for almost your entire life.

A La Porte City man says it's not easy, but it's time to get rid of his large collection of trains.

Larry Andersen says he and and his wife want to remove some of the clutter in their home.

That means he's getting rid of the two-thousand train related items he's collected since he was a kid

It turned into a hobby he's been doing for around 40 years now. His collection has everything from toy trains, to train books, to pictures, to watches and tracks.

Merv Hilpipre will be auctioning everything off later this month. Everything in the collection is in good shape.

Larry hasn't had a lot of time or space to set up a big train set, he just loves collecting them.

They'll all be auctioned off at Hilpipre Auction on August 27th starting at 9 in the morning.

So far, people from as far as Kansas and Nevada are planning on coming.

There are trains in the collection that date back to the 1950's. Some of the rail cars have familiar names, like Santa Fe, Amtrak and Union Pacific.
