Church group sings for peace in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin (KWWL) -

Nearly 100 people have gathered next to the blackened ruins of a Milwaukee auto parts store, saying they hope not to see a repeat of the violence Saturday night that followed a fatal police shooting.

Most of the group was from Greater New Birth Church. Many wore red T-shirts that read "Grace Stop the Violence" as they sang songs and prayed.

Salanda King James says the group wants to serve as a symbol of peace.

Six businesses were burned and 17 people arrested in violence a few hours after a black police officer shot a black man.

Police said the victim was fleeing a traffic stop and was holding a gun when he was shot.
