UPDATE: Names released in deadly crash near Vinton

UPDATE: The victims in the crash are 73-year-olds Terry Rance Bradshaw and Evelyn Beulah Bradshaw.



Benton County Sheriff's office says they're investigating the head-on crash that happened around 10 a.m. this morning half a mile East of Vinton on 61st Street Lane.

Authorities say a small SUV was headed westbound on 61st Street Lane, when it crossed over the center line on a curve and struck an oncoming pickup head on. The pickup had taken the shoulder to attempt to avoid the accident.

Benton County Sheriff Forsyth says the driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene and his wife died a short time later enroute to the hospital. The husband and wife were from the Mt. Auburn area located in the northern part of Benton County.

The Vinton Police Department, Vinton Fire Department, North Benton Ambulance from Vinton, and Lifeguard Helicopter from Cedar Rapids.

Names of those involved have not yet been released. 


UPDATE: Two people have died in a head-on collision this morning in Benton County.

The two-car crash happened along 61st Street Lane outside of Vinton, according to the Benton County Sheriff.

Sheriff's authorities say a white truck heading eastbound collided with another car driving westbound. The driver and a passenger in the car going westbound died in the collision. The driver of the white truck suffered injuries that aren't believed to be serious.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing, and the names of the people involved are not yet available.
