So far, so good two months after open of Dubuque's new airport terminal

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

It's been two months since the new terminal opened up at the Dubuque Regional Airport, and so far, many seem pleased with the new facility.

Count Katie Reuter among those impressed.  She's picking up a relative Tuesday afternoon, and enjoying the new facility.

"It's beautiful, it really is. It's just gorgeous. And it was really easy to come in to, to find your spot, wait to see the plane come in and see your family come through," she said.

Emily Soppe, also picking up at the airport, agrees, and says this new facility is a big upgrade over the old terminal.

"Oh, so much better. I don't even know if there is a comparison," she said.

The increase in size perhaps the most noticeable aspect of the new terminal.

That's important, because Dubuque has seen its passenger counts increase every year since 2013.

"Just the overall space. It's nice just to be able to get off the plane, and have some room to move around, make your way through the exit lane, make your way over to the baggage claim area, and not be congested with all the people who are trying to get on the flight going out," said Todd Dalsing, the operations and maintenance supervisor for the airport.

Dalsing says the new terminal is really leaving first timers with the great impression of Dubuque they want to give off.

"Everybody loves the first impression that they're getting when they get into Dubuque, and also the last impression when they're leaving."

Work is not completely finished on the terminal. Some projects, like guide signs and landscaping are still ongoing.

And Dalsing says they also are in negotiations with a restaurant to set up shop in the new terminal. He says they hope to have that completed and the restaurant opened up by the fall.  He wouldn't say what restaurant that might be.
