Blagojevich sentenced to 14 years in prison

Posted: Updated:

Today, a Federal Judge  upheld former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich's 14 year prison sentence on corruption counts.

Appearing in court on closed circuit TV, Blagojevich was seen bowing his head as U.S. District Judge James Zagel announced his decision.

Inside the courtroom, both his daughters cried as they tried comforting their mom and Blagojevich's wife.

Blagojevich was sent to prison in 2012 for trying to sell or trade the Senate seat left vacant when Barack Obama became president.

Today's decision came despite an appeals court tossing out five of the original 18 counts that landed Blagojevich in prison.

Blagojevich's brother Robert Blagojevich spoke before entering court today, saying his brother still has great potential.

"My brother has a lot of potential. He has a lot to give back to his community. And I'm hopeful that Judge Zagel will determine that he has a lot of potential to give back... so I'm hoping for the best for my brother."
