GRANT COUNTY, Wis. (KWWL) -

Nearly one week after a woman goes missing in the Mississippi River, her family and friends refuse to give up.

Virginia Aberle, 29, is presumed drowned.

Authorities say she was out camping with a group of friends at Wyalusing Beach in Grant County, Wisconsin. They decided to go swimming. At some point, Virginia was gone.

For four days crews from dozens of area law enforcement agencies combed through the water, even using sonar equipment to check the bottom of the river.

Despite all those efforts, officials made the difficult decision to call off the search.

Now that rescue crews have stopped the search, family and friends are taking matters into their own hands. They're at the river hoping to find her.

They're also reaching out to the public through Facebook asking people with boats for help -- help to find their beloved Virginia in hopes of bringing them some kind of closure.

After the Grant County Sheriff's Office called off the search, the next day sheriff Dreckman and a detective still went out to the river to help. He says its admirable that family and friends of Virginia are continuing with their own search.

Officials ask boaters on the Mississippi River between Guttenburg and the Wyalusing Beach to keep their eyes open for the body of Virginia.

They say if you spot her body, call 911.
