One person is dead and two people are injured following an early-morning shooting on Saturday that is being investigated as a homicide, according to police.

At approximately 1:15 a.m., Des Moines Police Department officers responded to Johnny Mac’s bar at 2279 Hubbell Avenue to investigate a report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located three victims who all sustained gunshot wounds. All three were taken to local hospitals for treatments.

One of the victims, 40-year-old William Dawson, was pronounced dead at approximately 10 a.m. The other two victims, 20-year-old William Dawson Jr. and 20-year-old Carley Toomey, are expected to survive. William Dawson Jr. is the son of William Dawson.

A witness who was at the bar says the shooting started over a pitcher of beer.

"There were people everywhere, it was chaos," said Wes Anderson. "Nobody had control of the situation and the bar was out of control. I know I get out of control sometimes, but there is no need to shoot."

The Des Moines Police Department continues to investigate the shooting.

This is the eighth Des Moines homicide of 2016.
