Irish Fest brings the Irish out in everyone

Posted: Updated:

It is that time of year again in the Cedar Valley, Irish Fest.

Opening night drawing a large crowd.

One of the biggest celebrations of the year brings the Irish out in everyone.

"It doesn't matter if you are Irish or not. Everybody gets to be Irish here. It is like St. Patrick's Day. We all get to have a good time," said Josh Sears of Waterloo.

A fan favorite, the three day festival has people coming back year after year; for the food, the people, and of course, the music.

"Gaelic Storm by far."

"Absolutely Gaelic Storm."

 "Screaming Orphans."

 "High Kings. Music in general."

The upbeat Irish music is at the heart of Downtown Waterloo this weekend.

"It is really good for Waterloo. We don't have a lot of festivals where everybody gets together and has a really good time," said Josh Sears.

But no one sums up the festival like The First Irish Pope.

"Hooleyness is the Irish word for celebration and of course, Malarkey is nonsense. So we are here to have a lot of fun without any real big reason," said The First Irish Pope.

Irish Fest runs through Sunday.
