11-year-old helps tornado victims in Vinton

VINTON (KWWL) -

Neighbors continue to clean up after their town was hit by an EF2 tornado several weeks ago.

The storm caused serious damage to a number of people's homes in Vinton, including an apartment building that lost its roof.

An 11-year-old girl is trying to help those were were affected by the tornado.

Raegan has collected donations for these families in need. She says she just wants to help.

"Clothes, more clothes, and more clothes and it never ends," says Raegan Junge, relief organizer. Raegan also collects food and other supplies.

"No matter what your age is you can help, you can make a difference," says Raegan.

And that's exactly what she's doing for people in Vinton, where 48 families lost their homes. But Raegan doesn't stop there, she's helped people from all over the United States affected by natural disasters since she was six-years-old.

"It could be a hurricane, wildfires, stuff like that. But there's too many states to count," says Raegan.

"It's not just a building, it's about the people who lived in them because since the building is condemned, people can't go in them. So all their stuff is perfectly fine, but they can't go in there and get it," says Raegan.

Jim Morrison lived in one of the apartment complexes.

"I got to the door of my bedroom, I looked up and the trap door that was between the apartment and attic, I could see lightening, nothing there," said Jim Morrison, Vinton.

Morrison has found a different apartment. He says he appreciates what Reagan has done.

"I think that it means more than people can imagine and more than people can understand. Just the thought that somebody does something, this kind of effort here that Raegen does," said Morrison.

Raegan is hopeful the families affected by this tornado will get back on their feet and know they have a good life in front of them.

For the victims that could not make it today Raegan will be at the Benton County Fairgrounds tomorrow from 12 to 3 PM.
